The velocity of technological change is staggering. It’s a little bit like watching a parade in a small town: don’t blink, or else you’ll miss it. In this case, the digital revolution is marching through industry at a fast clip and blockchain is part of the spectacle.
The business value-add of blockchain will grow to slightly more than $176 billion by 2025, and it will exceed $3.1 trillion by 2030.
In a PwC survey of 600 executives from 15 territories, 84 percent say their organizations have at least some involvement with blockchain technology.
In the same survey, 48 percent of respondents cite regulatory uncertainty as the biggest barrier to blockchain adoption.
Progressive leaders in both the public and private sectors need to understand what new digital technologies such as blockchain can and can’t do for their organizations. During this online journey, you’ll connect with UC Berkeley Executive Education's faculty, industry leaders, and peers from every corner of the globe, taking a deep dive into the applications of blockchain technology for business and society. Taking a case-based approach featuring use cases from finance, healthcare, supply chain management, and consumer products, you’ll collaborate through moderated discussion boards and join faculty for live interviews with industry leaders, including Q&A. In addition, there are live office hours to supplement the live and recorded sessions.
Starting with the fundamentals of what blockchain technology is, this program takes participants on an interactive journey through many different applications of blockchain — and what the future could hold for this technology.
Begin with an overview of where blockchain came from, who governs it, who owns it, who manages it; compare blockchain vs. Bitcoin; explore the broader implications for business, society, and governments; and select a capstone blockchain strategy.
Learn how a cryptocurrency is created; gain an overview of major cryptocurrencies; explore what makes them secure, volatile, and popular; identify exchanges for ratings, trading, and liquidity; and create your own digital wallet.
Explore applications of blockchain technologies in supply chain, healthcare, and consumer goods; examine how companies use blockchain to gain efficiencies and expand into new markets; and complete the ETH funds claim in the digital wallet.
Delve into the strengths and weaknesses of the blockchain entrepreneurial ecosystem, from service providers to initial coin offerings; identify opportunities in the blockchain ecosystem; and create your own cryptocurrency.

Lecturer, Distinguished Teaching Fellow, Entrepreneurship
Maura is a lecturer and distinguished teaching fellow in entrepreneurship at UC Berkeley. In 2016, she received the UC Berkeley Earl F. Cheit Award for Excellence in Teaching. She also advises startups, global companies, foundations, and global government agencies on innovation and new technologies. Maura is best known for adapting venture capital and drug discovery methods to global development by co-creating the Development Innovation Venture Fund that has expanded into the Global Innovation Fund. Her research and interests include regulatory and policy in blockchain and cryptocurrency as well as entrepreneurship and disruption from blockchain. She also teaches the Blockchain Technology and Strategy program at UC Berkeley.

Devadutta Ghat is the CTO at Live Planet, where he builds VideoCoin Network - a blockchain powered video infrastructure platform. He brings over a decade of experience to a highly technical team responsible for creating the infrastructure that will enable anyone to build and deploy decentralized video applications. Devadutta is an experienced engineer of complex cloud video systems, having served in senior management positions at Intel, Cloudera, and Live Planet. Previously, he was the Founder & Chief Architect of the Intel® Video Transcode Service. He holds a master of science in electrical and computer engineering from Stony Brook University and a MBA from UC Berkeley, Haas School of Business. He holds 6 patents in Video related technologies.

Co-Founder of FourthState Labs
Wesley Graham is the Co-Founder of FourthState Labs - an Ethereum-backed blockchain research team. Wesley was previously the Head of Consulting at Blockchain at Berkeley, and a software engineer on Oracle's blockchain team. His past work includes research on decentralized distribution resolution mechanisms, as well as research on Plasma, a “layer 2” blockchain scalability solution. Wesley has previously led consulting projects with ExxonMobil, Ford, BASF, the Department of Commerce, PG&E, and BMW.
